8-34 FOR THE CHIMNEY

Feb 26th   Truck 17 was put out at 2310 hours for the chimney at 140    Kennedy Street, Box 8-34.  Truck 17 laddered and cleared the                  chimney, as well as set up PPV.  No extension was found and Truck 17 returned to service at 2352 hours.                                                                          

ANOTHER BUILDING & HOUSE

Feb 16th    At 0117 hours, Truck 17 was dispatched to Vision Quest for the Building, Box 16-5.  Crews assumed roof ops and remained on the scene for four hours for extensive overhaul.  Around 1900 hours, Company 17 was put out for the house fire at 5034 Altenwald Road, Box 5-03.  Chief 17 arrived with fire showing from the second.  Crews laddered, vented, and searched the structure before returning .

BOX 11-13 FOR THE BUILDING

Feb 12th   Company 17 personnel were alerted around 0030 hours for   the Building fire at old Building 44 on Letterkenny Army Depot, Box     11-13.  Truck 17 responded with three personnel and was assigned to   exposure Building 42.  Crews laddered the structure and checked for   extension.  Meanwhile, Engine 17-2 was transferred to Company 13       until 0543 hours.  Once back on station, Truck 17 was requested at        0612 hours to Company 1's quarters, while Truck 1 continued to             operate on the 11-13 Box.  At 0634 hours, Truck 17 handled the               Commercial AFA at 1675 Orchard Drive, Box 1-05.                                         

GARAGE W/ EXTENSION

Feb 7th   The bells sounded at 0638 hours this morning sending              Engine 17-2 and Truck 17 to the house fire at 3834 Jacks Mills Road,    Box 18-8.  Command 18 arrived to find a garage off with extension         into the house.  Crews made quick work of the fire saving the house.      Truck 17 was placed in service while en route, but 17-2 was held until  overhaul operations were complete at 0919 hours.                                          

BOX 17-1 FOR THE CHIMNEY

Feb 6th   After a day of extensive snow removal throughout the area,    the 17-1 Box was struck at 1946 hours for the chimney fire at 1118          Cider Press Road.  Engine and Truck Company 17 responded to find     fire from the chimney.  With assistance from Engine 43, crews                 extinguished the fire and cleaned out the fireplace.  No extension was found and units cleared at 2046 hours.                                                               

GARAGE, OUTSIDE INVESTIGATION, MVA

Feb 2nd   The day started at 1445 hours with Truck 17 and Engine 17-  2 going to 1866 Blackgap Road, Box 7-5, for the working garage fire.      Crews laddered the structure and opened the roof, before clearing an  hour later.  Then, Engine 17-1 and Special Unit 17 responded at 1825   hours to Hades Church Road, Box 17-4A,  for the outside                             investigation.  AFC 17 arrived to find a controlled burn that was             impinging on a structure.  Personnel extinguished the fire and were     ready within 20 minutes.  At 1939 hours, Company 17 was put out for   one into the barn at 2479 Newcomer Road, Box 17-7.  Chief 17, Engine  17-1, and SU 17 arrived to find one auto over the embankment into       the barnyard.  Crews assisted the MICU from 7 with patient care and    control hazards.  Units cleared at 2002 hours.                                                 

AWARDS BANQUET

Jan 30th   Company 17 member's families, and friends gathered Saturday night for the 2009 Annual Awards Banquet.  Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to all who attended for a great night.  A special thanks goes out to C.C. Co. 53 and A.C. Co. 27 for covering the house.

ONE OFF IN THE BOROUGH

Jan 21st   At 0142 hours, Truck 17 was put out for the possible                 building fire at 55 South Main Street.  Engine 1-4 arrived with heavy    fire from the first and second of a two-story single family at 558             South Main and requested the second alarm sending Engine 17-2.         Truck 17 arrived and Team A laddered the Charlie side and assisted    with roof ops, while Team B completed a secondary search of the           structure.  Crews remained on the scene for salvage and overhaul          operations.

BOXES 7-1 & 1-02

Jan 17th   The day started at 0804 hours with Company 17 dumping      the house for the 7-1 Box at 156 Harvest Lane for the reported                 mattress fire.  DFC 7 went on scene with fire showing from the Bravo     and Charlie sides of a single story single family.  Personnel from 17       arrived and laddered the structure, provide vertical and horizontal     ventilation, as well as utility control.  Crews remained on the scene      for over an hour for salvage and overhaul ops.  Around 1230 hours,       Truck 17 was sent to the Borough for the smoke in the basement at        401 North Franklin Street, Box 1-02.  Crews laddered the structure        and investigated HVAC units on the roof.  A faulting exterior                    electrical outlet  was found and Truck 17 cleared at 1318 hours.            

AUTO OFF INSIDE THE BUILDING

Jan 15th   At 1544 hours, the bells sounded sending Truck 17 to 100 E Sixth St., Waynesboro, for the auto fire inside a building.  Crews laddered and provided ventilation to the structure in coordination with suppression efforts.  The truck cleared at 1730 hours.

DUMPSTER

Jan 12th   Company 17 was put out on the local assignment for the        dumpster at the Cracker Barrel on Wayne Road, Box 17-2a.  Crews        extinguished the fire within a few minutes and returned after giving    brief advice on throwing burning materials in a dumpster.                       

FIRST WORKER OF THE YEAR

Jan 2nd   Truck 17 was alerted at 1730 hours for the first working fire  of the new year.  Truck 17 responded with six personnel and arrived     to find a well off garage attached to the Charlie side of a two-story         house.  Crews went to work opening up and assisting with fire attack.   Crews remained on the scene battling below zero temperatures, while providing lighting and overhaul operations until 2021 hours.
